Ferrovie dello Stato and Delta Airlines to acquire Alitalia.

Synopsis

Ferrovie dello Stato, a state-owned holding company that manages infrastructure and services on the Italian rail network, and US-based airline Delta Airlines made a bid for Alitalia, the former flag carrier of Italy. Financial terms were not disclosed. Atlantia, controlled by the Benetton family, faces the loss of its entire national motorway concession in a bitter dispute with the government, which erupted after last year’s disaster on its toll network killed 43 people, could join a rescue of loss-making flag carrier Alitalia.
