NVIDIA, an American multinational technology company, terminated the deal to acquire Arm Holdings, a British semiconductor and software design company, from SoftBank for $40bn. "Arm has a bright future, and we’ll continue to support them as a proud licensee for decades to come. Arm is at the center of the important dynamics in computing. Though we won’t be one company, we will partner closely with Arm. The significant investments that Masa has made have positioned Arm to expand the reach of the Arm CPU beyond client computing to supercomputing, cloud, AI and robotics. I expect Arm to be the most important CPU architecture of the next decade," Jensen Huang, NVIDIA Founder and CEO. On September 15, 2020, UK government is set to consider attaching conditions on the number of jobs Nvidia will keep in the UK. On October 21, 2020, Huawei and other Chinese tech firms raise concerns on Nvidia's Arm deal. On January 6, 2021, CMA announced its decision to investigate NVIDIA's $40bn takeover of Arm. On April 19, 2021, the Digital Secretary instructed the CMA to look into NVIDIA’s takeover of Arm. On June 8, 2021, Nvidia has submitted an application to Chinese competition regulators to review the $40bn takeover of Arm. On August 19, 2021, Nvidia stated that its acquisition Arm is unlikely to be completed within the 18-month period it laid out, as it faces drawn-out regulatory investigations around the world. On October 6, 2021, The European Commission extended its deadline to rule on the deal until October 27, 2021. On October 27, 2021, EU antitrust regulators investigates deal, claiming it could lead to higher prices, less choice and reduced innovation. On December 3, 2021, FTC sued to block Nvidia deal to buy Arm. On December 6, 2021, EU antitrust regulators halted their investigation into Nvidia's deal with ARM, as they await more information. On February 7, 2022, NVIDIA and SoftBank announce the termination of NVIDIA’s acquisition of Arm.
