Synopsis
AMADA, a global manufacturer of metalworking machinery, agreed to acquire Via Mechanics, a manufacturer of PCB drilling machines, from Advantage Partners, a private equity investment firm, for JPY51bn. The acquisition will broaden the company's portfolio by entering the semiconductor market, which is expected to see high growth, primarily in laser processing. By bringing Via Mechanics under Amada's umbrella and expanding its supply chain, Via Mechanics can reduce manufacturing costs, thereby enhancing its price competitiveness against Mitsubishi Electric and other companies. Amada, which specializes in laser processing for metals, and Via Mechanics, which excels in laser processing for resins, can also collaborate on technology development.
