Synopsis
Redes Energeticas Nacionais, a Portuguese company that operates and manages Portugal’s national electricity transmission and natural gas transportation networks, agreed to acquire electricity transmission assets in Chile of Antofagasta, a UK-based mining company primarily engaged in the exploration, development, and operation of copper mines in Chile, for $67.5m. This acquisition follows REN’s recent purchase of Transmisora de Energía Nacimiento in April 2025 and further consolidates REN’s footprint in the Chilean electricity transmission sector. Transemel, REN’s Chilean subsidiary active in the electricity transmission sector, will now operate approximately 423 Kms of transmission lines and 5 substations across the northern, central and southern regions of the country.
