Global online payments system PayPal invested $500m in Uber Technologies, a transportation network company offering services that include peer-to-peer ridesharing, ride service hailing, food delivery, and a bicycle-sharing system. PayPal will invest in Uber through a concurrent private placement at the IPO price.
