International Airlines Group, an Anglo-Spanish multinational airline holding company, agreed to acquire an 80% stake in Air Europa, a private airline in Spain, from Globalia, a travel and tourism services provider, for €400m. On August 1, 2024; International Airlines Group, an Anglo-Spanish multinational airline holding company, terminated the acquisition of an 80% stake in Air Europa, a private airline in Spain, from Globalia, a travel and tourism services provider. "We believe this decision is in the best interests of our shareholders. IAG remains committed to its strategy, including competing effectively from its Madrid hub. This is a strategy which is delivering strong results. We will continue to develop our presence in Madrid so that the hub can develop as a rival to Europe's largest hub airports," Luis Gallego, IAG CEO.
