Synopsis
Hamburger Energiewerke, the municipal heat supplier for the city of Hamburg, completed the acquisition of Vattenfall Moorburg, a coal-fired power plant operator, from Vattenfall, an electric services company. Financial terms were not disclosed. "The construction of a large-scale hydrogen production and the dismantling of the existing power plant can be done from a single source from now on. It is in the nature of the matter that there are conflicting interests and licensing challenges between dismantling, conversion and construction of a new infrastructure. We can avoid these conflicts with the purchase in the future. In addition, we acquire a first-class location for the energy and heat transition, which has a connection to the urban power grid and the transmission network, a water treatment suitable for re-use and also via a quay edge for the landing of renewable energy carriers. This is how the up of the hydrogen economy in Hamburg can succeed," Christian Heine, Hamburger Energiewerke CEO.
